Tribute to a Great Dog
Kaya, You Were the Best
Remember the time you pulled the curtains off the walls? Remember the time you threw the couch cushions around the living room while we were gone? I think for a while we put the pillows up on the bookshelf whenever we left, to keep you from making a mess. It’s OK. You barely left any teeth holes. You were young and we were just getting to know each other. And it was kind of funny anyway.
Remember the day my parents met my future in-laws for the first time? I bet you do. It was one of the best days of your life. We spent the whole afternoon in the backyard. You treed that squirrel in the old apple tree right there by the steps. And you knew you had something. You knew it was just a matter of time. You never gave up. You stayed at the foot of the tree and watched for hours. I thought surely the squirrel would climb into the high-up branches of another tree and escape. But you knew there was a chance. You knew that if you stuck with it long enough, eventually that squirrel would do what it did. At about hour 4, its little squirrel brain said, “Its time to make a break for it!” And on that day the squirrel was removed from the gene pool, you got to have your first successful hunt. I’m sure your ancient husky ancestors were proud. And you made that day memorable, if in a slightly unpleasant way.
